    Inflation spikes 8.2 percent year-on-year

    Consumer prices in January 2022 increased by 8.2 percent compared to the same month last year.

    As the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia stated, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased the most during the past 12 months – by 13.5 percent.

    What else has become more expensive?

    Within the food category, the biggest growth was recorded by vegetables by 26.4 percent, followed by oils and fats by 21.4 percent, coffee, tea and cocoa by 17.3 percent, and meat by 16.1 percent.

    The lowest rate of increase when it comes to food, of 6.2 percent, is recorded by fish.

    Within this statistical group, mineral water, soft drinks and juices recorded an annual increase of 2.9 percent.

    From January 2021 to January 2022, the use and maintenance of vehicles increased in price by 17.3 percent.

    Fuels and lubricants for passenger vehicles rose in price by 21.3 percent.

    When it comes to monthly inflation, the prices of personal consumption products and services in January 2022, compared to December 2021, increased by 0.8 percent on average.
