FIVE DINARS for incentives – FOUR for him, and ONE for her

Only one in five enterprises among those that receive finds at competitions that support business development are owned by women, i.e. for five dinars invested in incentives a female entrepreneur will receive only a single dinar. The NALED report was prepared for the needs of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), within the project „Gender Analysis of Economic Programs and Financial Measures in Serbia“. Aleksandra Miletic of the UN Women Programme Office in Serbia explains for RTS TV station that they have studied competitions announced by the Development Agency of Serbia between 2016 and 2017, in order to receive precise information on how the inequality occurred. Although women own 31 percent of enterprises, when it comes to funds allocation the chances are only 20 percent that they will receive them. During announcement there is a direct discrimination in the very public calls, i.e. competitions often support sectors such as manufacturing or production, where there are fewer women as they are mostly in the service sector, Miletic states Larger companies with more capital and more employees are more likely to receive funds via competitions, while women mostly have entrepreneurial shops. Miletic points out that securities are often requested, i.e. a certain real estate, which women often do not have.
