Epidemiologist: Covid in Serbia has become SOCIAL and PSYCHOLOGICAL problem

Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Staff, Branislav Tiodorovic, says that covid is no longer a health problem, but a social and psychological one.

„I have personally said that we should urgently introduce a very strict control of measures, including fines, and a very broad vaccination program. And now the worst-case scenario has become reality and we are in a situation that this is a social and psychological problem,“ Tiodorovic said for Prva TV.

He pointed out that the main problem was the poor vaccination rate of Serbian citizens. „This is now individual responsibility. We have to be aware, vaccination is now the only way out of this. Can we vaccinate additional 20 percent of the population in 10 to 15 days – it seems to me that we cannot,” Tiodorovic said.

He believes that new measures will not have a significant effect and he adds that the medical part of the Crisis Staff communicates on a daily basis.

„Anyway, there will be no lockdown. A session will be held soon. We will certainly request a much stricter implementation of measures and their control. The only question is who will inspect this,“ Tiodorovic pointed out.

He asked whether it was normal to organize wedding parties and celebrations in this situation, adding that we needed to be aware of all this as individuals.

„We do not want to discriminate in favour of either vaccinated of unvaccinated individuals, but we do want to create circumstances that are the best possible, so that we can all function normally soon,“ Tiodorovic said.
