DRIVERS wander on highway, Inspectorate orders 5 EMERGENCYMEASURES

A month after a new section of the highway was opened throughthe Grdelica Gorge, the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Construction, Transportand Infrastructure found numerous omissions and ordered the company PuteviSrbije to rectify them. Namely, the Inspectorate performed an emergency inspection of thetemporary traffic signalization set up in the toll booth zone on the highwayfrom Nis to Bujanovac and ordered five measures that the public company PuteviSrbije must immediately implement, the Ministry announced. The most important measure in the inspectorate’sdecision is related to the urgent supplementation of the temporary trafficsignalization and its alignment with the project documentation, within threedays. The inspection supervisiondiscovered that signalization is missing indicating the direction of divertedtraffic when the road is closed. In the toll booth zone, on the highway, in thetemporary signalization, there are no information boards from both trafficdirections informing drivers that the intersections are under reconstruction.Furthermore, on the roads leading towards theseintersections, there is no temporary traffic signalization stipulated by theproject documentation, marking the direction of the diverted traffic when theroad is closed. Moreover, the PuteviSrbije company is asked to provide evidence that prior to the commencement ofthe works on the side toll booths, they informed traffic participants about thetraffic regime change in a manner prescribed by the Law on Roads. If that wasnot done, the inspectorate will file misdemeanor charges. Republic inspectors checked traffic signalization andchanges in the traffic regime within the execution of works on side toll boothson the sections of the highway from Nis to Bujanovac in the zones of Doljevac,Brestovac, Leskovac South and Bujanovac north. Over the past few days, the media reported that the drivers werecompletely uninformed about the exits closed due to the installation of tollbooths and that, consequently, they drove ten kilometers more and paid more forroad toll. The Putevi Srbije companyreplied that there was no need for wandering in the south of Serbia because they“informed everyone well“ about which highway exits are closed fortraffic. However, the inspectoratedetermined the opposite.
