Computer science as a MANDATORY subject for first graders as well
Computer science will be a mandatory subject from the school year 2020/2021, Minister of Education Mladen Sarcevic announces for the „Novosti“ daily. The present „from a toy to a computer“ subject, which is optional, will be included in pre-school education, and pupils will have a computer science class from the first grade. Preparations for the introduction of a teaching novelty have commenced this week, and the project will include the National Education Council and the Faculty of Teacher Education. Computer science classes will be mandatory, not elective. A work force will soon draw up a plan to introduce the dynamics of inclusion of this subject, whether solely in the first grade for starters or perhaps some other model, Sarcevic explains. We are intensively equipping schools with computers and significantly increasing the number of digital classrooms. Last school year there were 2,000 of them, and by September 15th, there will be as many as 10,000 digital classrooms in schools. A plan is to double that number to a total of 20,000 digital classrooms. An investment of RSD 900 million is planned for computer science classrooms.
