Cigarettes to rise in price in Serbia as of February

Cigarettes will be more expensive from next month, most likely by RSD 10, due to the regular harmonization of excise duties, the Vecernje novosti daily reports.
The prices of cigarettes produced by Japan Tobacco International (JTI) from Senta, which will be valid from February 1, will be higher by RSD 10, as it is published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette.

According to the information from the Novosti daily, it is expected that in the first ten days of next month, brands of other producers, Nis-based Philip Morris and British American Tobacco in Vranje, will increase in price by the same amount.

According to the available price list of JTI, the cheapest pack will cost RSD 270, and the most expensive RSD 550.

Tobacco producers adjust price lists to the excise calendar twice a year.

The new legal solution envisages that the specific excise tax will be increased by RSD 1.5 per pack by the end of 2025. Along with it, a proportional component of this levy of 33 percent of the price of cigarettes is charged, and VAT is added to that.

Serbia is trying to reach EU standards, which stipulate that the minimum excise tax is EUR 90 per 1,000 cigarettes, and in our country it is now around EUR 70.
