Cheaper roaming possible with EU countries as well

At the upcoming summit of the leaders of the EU and the Western Balkans, the European Union plans to launch a so-called „road map“, to determine the conditions and goals of reducing roaming prices between the EU and the Western Balkans, it was said in Brussels.

On this occasion, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, talked to the representatives of the telecom operators from the region.

„I had good talks with telecom operators from the region on how to make progress in terms of reducing roaming prices, both within the Western Balkans and between the region and the EU. We are ready to support investments so that this becomes a reality,“ Varhelyi said on his Twitter account.

At the EU and the Western Balkans Summit, as a part of the debate on the Economic and Investment Plan for the region, one of the topics will be the creation of conditions and the gradual reduction of roaming prices by the countries of the Western Balkans and the EU 27.

The EU welcomes the successful implementation of the regional roaming agreement, which enabled the launch of free roaming among the countries of the Western Balkans, which started on July 1, 2021.

It is added that the reduction of roaming prices between the EU and the Western Balkans will be an upgrade of this regional initiative.
