Bodiroga at the helm of Euroleague
Yugoslav and Serbian basketball legend Dejan Bodiroga is the new president of the Euroleague, the organisation announced.
Bodiroga, who won three Euroleague titles during his playing career, was appointed president of the Basketball Euroleague and director of the competition.
“Bodiroga brings knowledge and experience and he will focus on increasing the quality of the competition. His arrival provides the basis for a new strategy for improving the institutional relations of the Euroleague within the global basketball community,“ according to Euroleague’s press release. After his playing career, Bodiroga was vice president of the Basketball Federation of Serbia in the period 2011-2015, and then president of the FIBA Europe Commission for the competition.
“We are entering a new era of Euroleague. Over the past 20 years, the Euroleague has become a powerful competition. I want to thank Jordi Bertomeu and his team for their vision and hard work and I look forward to continuing to build and expand the influence of Euroleague and Eurocup,“ Bodiroga said.
As president of the Euroleague, Bodiroga will succeed Bertomeu, who spent 22 years in this position.
