BIZLife list “30 under 30”: Natasa Kovacevic, social activism

Natasa Kovacevic is a famous Serbian basketball player, born in 1994 in Belgrade. She played at the wing position for almost all national teams. A serious car accident temporarily interrupted her basketball career, but in spite of leg amputation, she returned to the basketball court as a basketball player of Red Star. After her playing career ended, she became the president of that club, and when she finished her basketball career, she focused on education. She started her career in the Partizan club in 2008 and she played there until 2010. With Partizan, she won the second place in the Serbian championship. In January 2010, she transferred to Vozdovac, with which she also played in the Adriatic League, while in 2013 she transferred to Red Star. For Red Star, she scored 16.6 points on average, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists, which was a stepping stone for the signing of the first foreign engagement with the Hungarian team Gyori. In 2014, Natasa established a foundation under her name, whose work focuses on helping athletes who are facing life challenges. The Natasa Kovacevic Foundation helps seriously injured and sick athletes, educates them about the need for additional insurance, and it also supports young sports talents and promotes women’s sport. In the past few years, Natasa has been very active in working with the community and she has delivered a large number of motivational speeches. Natasa won many awards and recognitions. In 2015, the magazine NIN proclaimed her „Personality of the Year“, and she was also named a member of the Serbian Royal Academy of Scientists and Artists in 2014, as well as a promoter of the European Women’s Championship in Belgrade in 2019. She is currently enrolled in master studies of Leadership and Management of the Northumbria University in Newcastle.
