Air Serbia starts the trial of the IATA travel pass among the first in Europe

Air Serbia has invited its passengers who have tickets for flights from Belgrade to Zurich for voluntary participation in the project of testing the application „IATA Travel Pass“, which is implemented in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Torlak Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Sera.

The innovative mobile application helps passengers to easily and safely organize travel in accordance with the requirements of countries regarding testing for COVID-19 or vaccination, and the Serbian national airline was one of the first in Europe to become part of this global initiative.

Trial of this application will start on flights from Wednesday, 28 April and will last for four weeks.

Passengers on the Belgrade-Zurich route have been invited to download the IATA Travel Pass app, create an account with a profile photo and information about their passport, as well as to input data about the flight, after which they get the information on the test required to enter Switzerland and then schedule a date to get tested at the Torlak Institute.

After the test results arrive, they become visible in the IATA Travel Pass application, which compares the necessary requirements for travelling with the input data of the passenger, including the test results, and everyone who meets the requirements to travel to their desired destination gets a green light for travelling.

The IATA Travel Pass app is completely free of charge for passengers, and will be available only for iOS devices in the first stage of trial, and later it will also be made available to Android users.

“We are glad to have started the application trial process, and we hope for good results, so that we can expand the implementation of the project to flights to other destinations. IATA Travel Pass represents an important initiative for the re-opening of borders without quarantine, and an important step in the direction of quicker recovery of the aviation industry, which is why we are among the first in this part of the world to get involved in the pilot project,” said Zoran Radosavljević, Head of PSS and Distribution, Air Serbia.

The IATA Travel Pass is based on “’Self-sovereign identity”, which allows the passenger to have full control over their personal data. Users can store their entire travel documentation in a digital wallet, and choose whom they want to share the data with. In addition to that, the application allows them to find accurate and up-to-date information on the testing requirements necessary for their trip.

Regardless of whether they use IATA Travel Pass app during the testing period, passengers are advised to carry a printed copy of the results of their test from the Torlak Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Sera with them during their travels, since the authorities in Switzerland may require it.

The IATA Travel Pass app will be further improved as the borders open, significantly speeding up the process of checking in for flights, while creating possibilities for future contactless and safe travels.

More information about the activities of the Serbian national airline can be found on the Air Serbia Media Centre web page.
