„A new strain of the virus did not enter Serbia yesterday, but on December 31st“
Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic stated that a sample of a new, mutated strain of the coronavirus in Serbia was taken on December 31st, when a woman who arrived from Great Britain noticed problems.
Tiodorovic stated with Prva TV station that it was immediately determined that it was a coronavirus infection, but only subsequent tests confirmed that it was a mutated strain, „which differs in a small element from the previous virus.“
He said that all the contacts of the woman in whom the mutated strain of the coronavirus was found were placed in an isolation.
When asked whether the fear of a new strain of coronavirus is justified, Tiodorovic answered that a larger number of those infected comes as a consequence of the fact that the mutated strain is transmitted faster, hence the higher mortality rate compared to the already present virus.
