Commissioner: Benefits that Sinisa Mali was talking about have not yet been experienced by citizens
The rate of inequality in Serbia is higher than 33 percent, while in Europe it is 30.2 percent, as Brankica Jankovic, Commissioner for Equality Protection, said at the panel „Inequality and Response of Public Policies“ at the Kopaonik Business Forum.
„I am sorry that Finance Minister Sinisa Mali is not here with us at this panel so that we could disappoint him a little. All the benefits he talked about have not yet been experienced by the citizens of Serbia. Serbia is a country of inequality, the revenues of the state have increased, but unemployment caused by the pandemic has remained at the same level. About 30% of Serbian citizens are at risk of poverty,“ Jankovic said at the Kopaonik Business Forum.
Afterwards, Mihail Arandarenko, Professor of the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, said that Serbia had become a rich country of poor citizens.
“All the time, there has been this targeting, give it to the poor, give them as much as they need to survive. Do not give too much to anyone. We have come to the point that when you ask for social assistance, you should sue your parents or children. And we hear mostly ‘we just need to introduce social cards’,” said Arandarenko.
