Member of the Trade Union: EVERY FOURTH person gets a permanent employment

Every fourth person is employed for an indefinite period of time in Serbia, while the rest are volunteering or under a contractual relationship, Zoran Stojiljkovic, the President of the United Branch Unions „Nezavisnost“, stated in Kragujevac. He pointed out afterwards that the basic problem for all trade unions, including „Nezavisnost“ as well, is to provide labour-legal, social and political protection to all with work engagement, not just employees. The leader of „Nezavisnost“ estimated that many employees have precarious existence, hired in the grey zone, but even those who work have by no means secured a decent existence. According to Stojiljkovic, the issue of decent work is also the focus of the trade unions’ attention, which, as he stated, is work that is paid on time, decent and work that is secured, covered by contracts and safe. Stojiljkovic said that there are mass cases in Serbia where, when trade unions go on strike unified, the matter ends with establishment of a pro-state or directors’ union. He said that in these cases senior state officials also come forward, with a story that strike had been politically provoked, yet have no evidence to support such claims. On the other hand, trade unions are losing trust because their success and unity are not seen enough, but above all because they are assessed as an organization that is necessary, yet not particularly powerful, Stojiljkovic said, pointing to the problem of discrimination on the basis of union and political affiliation that is „highly positioned“ in all discrimination studies in the work and employment process. The president of the United Branch Unions „Nezavisnost“ said that by the end of this year laws on the Socio-Economic Council and strike are expected, as well as the Labour Law by the end of 2021. As for the upcoming elections, Stojiljkovic concluded that social requests and policies „are not that present on the political agendas.“
