State Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia Tatjana Matic has said that the value of the domestic information technology market in 2018 is estimated at about 522.7 million euros, which is eight percent more than last year.

As the Ministry stated, she pointed out that the market of IT services was expected to record the highest growth by about 13.5 percent, followed by the software package market with a growth of about 10.4 percent, and IT equipment supply by about 2.6 percent.

Matic announced that, according to the current trends in 2018, an increase to 2.4% of gross domestic product (GDP) of the value added generated by IT companies was expected in 2018.

She recalled that in 2017 these companies generated a total of 804.2 million euros of value added, that is, 2.3 percent of Serbian GDP, which is an increase compared to the year before, when this value was 2.1 percent of GDP.

„In order to continue accelerating the development of the IT market and the IT industry in Serbia that has been achieved in the previous period, economic and political stability is necessary, since the IT encompasses all areas, starting from economy, health care, education,“ Matic said.

She pointed out that investments were crucial for the growth of this sector, and they were currently insufficient, amounting to 75 euros per capita.
