A brief history of Serbia’s public debt
Serbia’s public debt at the end of this year’s September was around EUR23.95 billion, which is 55.9 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), the Ministry of Finance announced.
Serbia’s public debt at the end of 2017 was EUR23.2 billion, which was 61.5 percent of GDP.
In December 2016, public debt was around EUR24.8 billion, i.e. 71.9 percent of GDP. At the end of 2015, public debt was also around EUR24.8 billion, i.e. 74.7 percent of GDP in that year.
Serbia’s public debt at the end of 2014 was EUR22.76 billion, i.e. 70.4 percent of GDP, while at the end of 2013 it was EUR20.14 billion, with a stake of 59.6 percent in GDP.
At the end of 2000, Serbia’s public debt was EUR14.17 billion or 201.2 percent of GDP, and the lowest amount of public debt was in 2008 when it was EUR8.78 billion or 28.3 percent of GDP.
According to the Law on the Budget System, the stake of public debt in GDP is limited to 45 percent.
