The last Yugo car was manufactured 10 years ago
The production of one of the most popular cars in the former Yugoslavia and the „key“ to the modernisation of the car fleet at the time – Yugo – stopped ten years ago.
Designed as a more modern successor to the car nicknamed „Fica“, Yugo, i.e. originally Zastava 102 and later called Yugo, was created on the basis of a European car from 1972, the Fiat 127 model. Production started in 1980.
After the collapse of Yugoslavia, the list of sub-contractors also fell apart, and interest declined. The lack of new generations, or at least modernisation, indicated the near end of production.
However, the tough Yugo model survived until 2008, when production stopped on November 11. The last car was reportedly sold for 50,000 euros.
During 28 years, a total of 794,428 cars of this model were produced.
