65,000 came to Serbia from abroad in three days, including those infected with coronavirus

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has said that the biggest challenge the country is facing is the unexpectedly massive return of our citizens from abroad, which is why penalties are tightened for those who violate self-isolation measures. Brnabic said at a press conference that from March 14 until today at 8 a.m., 65,000 of our citizens who lived or resided abroad entered the country. What is particularly worrying, as she pointed out, is the fact that in the last 48 hours our citizens whose infection with the coronavirus has been confirmed in the countries where they reside are also coming back. „We either put them in self-isolation or hospitalize them and this is another new challenge that we are facing and that is why we have decided to further tighten the measures and sanctions we have adopted to try to protect the general population,“ the prime minister said. „It would be patriotic if they stayed there, it would have been a supreme act of patriotism if they had stayed where they pay their taxes, but healthcare has to be paid for there, while it is free of charge in our country, which is now putting an enormous burden on us,“ Brnabic said. According to her, that is why the government designated three facilities that will accommodate all of those who violate the measure of self-isolation, and these facilities will be secured by the police. Furthermore, if they infect other people and severely damage their health, they can be sentenced to 1 to 8 years in prison, and if that person dies, they can be sentenced to 2 to 12 years in prison.
