These are two possible solutions for taxation of freelancers from January
A new model for the taxation of freelancers will be introduced as of January 2023. A task force dealing with proposals for resolving the status of freelancers in Serbia has published a new model according to which online workers should be taxed next year.
This model offers online workers an opportunity to choose between two ways of taxation.
The Association of Freelancers and Entrepreneurs of Serbia says that in the new proposal the Ministry of Finances has accepted most of the proposals of the freelancers’ representatives, and the proposal for taxation should enter into the parliamentary procedure with the autumn set of financial laws.
In the future, the reporting of tax by freelancers will be quarterly.
Therefore, the deadline for reporting revenues generated in a particular quarter is 30 days from its completion. This means that the revenues generated from January 1 to March 31 should be reported by online workers from April 1 to April 30. The tax will be paid no later than by the expiration of the reporting deadline for a given quarter, or, in the above example, by the end of April.
