Regulation on energy-vulnerable buyer enters into force
The Government of Serbia, at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy, adopted a new regulation on the energy-vulnerable buyer, which will enter into force.
Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy Milan Aleksic has told RTS that the Regulation is coming into force, adding that it is good news for all citizens who need this assistance. It defines the categories of citizens who have the right to reduced electricity bills.
Considering that this Regulation has improved the criteria for acquiring the status of an energy protected buyer, in the future, significantly more citizens will receive a discount on electricity, gas and thermal energy.
„When they will receive a reduced bill depends on the efficiency of the local self-government,“ noted Aleksic, adding that the Regulation determined who had the right to apply for an energy protected buyer, and the criteria included the financial position related to the monthly income of household members, property status, citizens who have some social benefits or child benefits, and citizens who have a severe health condition.
According to him, three times more money was allocated to the protection of energy-vulnerable households. Aleksic pointed out that four billion dinars were provided to help energy-vulnerable customers, the thresholds were raised so that now many more citizens could apply.
