Novak celebrated the 311th week as number one with fans(VIDEO)
The best tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic, celebrated the record for the largest number of weeks at the top of the ATP list in history with fans and spectacular fireworks in front of the „Novak“ restaurant in Novi Beograd.
Several hundred of Djokovic’s fans waited patiently for world number 1.
„Thank you all for your support, thank you for being here. Today is a special day and I would not have succeeded without your support and the support of my family. Success is yours as well, the entire Serbia. When I won Wimbledon in 2011 and came to Belgrade, I felt your support, I know that you are often at the edge of your seat watching me, I am often annoyed by my game as well, but it’s sweeter that way“, said Djokovic.
„Today is a special day for me, my family and for Serbia. Thank you for the success, however, it is not just mine but yours, as well as the entire nation. I understood that the most ten years ago and even before that. But somehow the events from Belgrade in 2011, following Wimbledon, when I became number one for the first time, touched me the most.“
He pointed out that days like this should be celebrated and said that „there is still desire and hunger for new victories“ in him.
Djokovic started the 311th week at the top of the ATP list, thus breaking Roger Federer’s record of 310 weeks.
