BOTH IN SERBIA AND WORLDWIDE: IKEA firing in order to employ

IKEA plans to cut 7,500 jobs in the next couple of years, mainly in department of administration, while it is announced that 23 employees in Serbia will be discharged.

In an interview for the Danas daily, CEO of IKEA for Southeast Europe Stefan Vanoverbeke has explained that IKEA is changing the global strategy because „the world around us is changing at a pace we have never seen before“.

„The retail sector has undergone major changes, our customers are increasing the use of digital technologies, their needs and expectations are significantly different today than they were before. Today, they mostly live in urban centres, do not own cars and do not always have enough time to visit our department stores, which are mainly located outside the city centre. These are the reasons why IKEA is changing on a global level,“ Vanoverbeke has said.

As he has added, they will establish new, so-called contact points with buyers in both Serbia and region of Southeast Europe, such as check points for collection of products or smaller stores in city centres, and at the same time they will significantly develop digital services.

Vanoverbeke has pointed out that by the end of business transformation, 706 new jobs will be opened in both Serbia and the region, through opening of new department stores, checkpoints for collection of goods and digital services.

At the same time, it is announced that Group which owns 367 IKEA stores estimates that it will open 11,500 new jobs in that period, as it is expanding via new formats online as well.
