Western Balkans DISAPPEARING, everyone leaving for EU

Last year alone, 228,000 people moved from the Western Balkans to the European Union countries, Eurostat data show. 51,000 people left from Serbia to the EU, but still most emigrants came from Albania, 62,000, and BiH, 53,500, reported Podgorica-based Vijesti. 34,500 people emigrated from Kosovo, 24,300 from North Macedonia and 3,000 from Montenegro. Most people emigrate from Albania to Italy (23,000), Greece (17,000) and Germany (10,000). Most people from BiH go to Germany (16,000), Slovenia and Croatia. Last year, most citizens emigrated from Serbia to Germany (16,000), followed by Slovenia (5,100) and Croatia and Slovakia (4,900 each). From Kosovo, which is referred to in this document as the UN territory under Security Council Resolution 1244, most people went to Germany last year, almost 19,000, which is more than half, followed by Slovenia and Italy. Last year, most people from North Macedonia moved to Germany (11,500), followed by Italy and Slovenia. Compared to the number of citizens, emigration is the most significant in Albania, which has a population of about 2.8 million, since last year’s 62,000 departures accounted for about 2.2 percent of the total population. The number of departures from North Macedonia accounts for 2.1 percent of the total population, while about two percent of citizens left Kosovo. BiH was left by 1.5 percent of the population last year, and Serbia by 1.3 percent.
