The record-breaking value of construction works in Serbia last year

The value of construction works completed in Serbia in 2018 was 13.9 percent higher than a year earlier, i.e. by more than 40 billion dinars, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced today.

The data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia show that the value of the works increased from 291.8 billion dinars in 2017 to 332.4 billion dinars, i.e. by about 2.8 billion euros, which is the highest increase since the indicator is measured, the statement says.

Over the past five years, the value of construction works increased by more than 140 billion dinars, i.e. nearly 1.2 billion euros, since in 2013 it amounted to 189.5 billion dinars.

It was estimated that the previous year „was one of the most successful years for Serbian construction, which was the holder of GDP growth in 2018 and it recorded progress in terms of all important indicators.“ The increase in the value of the works performed, as it is stated, contributed to the increase in the share of construction in GDP from 4.1 percent in 2017 to 4.7 percent in 2018.

The press release adds that after a long time, for the first time, a significant increase in employment in construction was recorded, where the number of employees increased from 89,202 in 2017 to 96,292 last year.
