Serbian jadarite to be processed ON THE SPOT
All the ores extracted from mines near Loznica under the „Jadar Serbia“ project will be processed near the mining pits themselves, said commercial manager of Rio Tinto – „Jadar Serbia“ project, Srdjan Gavrilovic. Gavrilovic said at the Ninth International Conference on Mineral Resources of Serbia that the practice of global companies was not to process ore at the place where they extracted it. Thus, Serbian lithium used for batteries will be extracted through processing on the spot, in the vicinity of Loznica. „Mineral processing usually does not take place in the country where ore is extracted. Rio Tinto has invested a lot of effort, time and capital and processing will take place in Serbia at one location,“ Gavrilovic announced. Talking about sustainable mining, at a panel dedicated to the potentials of mining in Serbia and the world, he said that an important prerequisite for the development of this sector and local communities living near the mines was infrastructure, that is, mostly road construction.
