Momirovic: Big ISSUE OF POLITICIZATION of Rio Tinto
Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirovic has said that the Government of Serbia will not do anything without completing the environmental impact assessment study on the Jadar project, adding that 17 more institutions need to comment on the project.
„And the citizens will then have all the relevant information presented to them. We will not make decisions without the citizens, to whom we will show all the benefits and risks,“ Momirovic told the Vecernje Novosti daily when asked about the lithium exploitation project.
As he stated, „there is a big issue of politicizing the Rio Tinto case.“
This project has great economic benefits, if it is realized, the average salary in the Loznica area will be higher than 1,500 euros, a university would probably be opened in this town in the next 10 years, a large number of young people would relocate here…It is true that the project also has certain environmental risks and we are not running away from them,“ said Momirovic.
According to him, „the ministry he heads has issued the prerequisites for conducting an environmental impact assessment study.“
„We are aware of the risks, they exist, but the cataclysmic announcements that can be heard are completely inappropriate and deviate from reality,“ said Momirovic.
