Inspectors „flee“ from state inspection department, calls for application often unsuccessful
Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government of Serbia Aleksandar Martinovic has said that the staffing of state inspection departments, depending on the ministry, is between 30 and 70 percent and that interest in these jobs is low.
At the conference on combating gray economy in the Palace of Serbia, he pointed out that the average age of inspectors was 59, and that there was a big problem with the outflow of inspectors, while at the same time calls for application for new inspectors were often not successful.
Martinovic emphasized that there was little interest in calls for application seeking new inspectors, especially experts in the field of mining, transport, construction and veterinary medicine, because they were in demand on the market and had better incomes in the private sector.
He added that inspectors were also leaving these jobs due to difficult working conditions, which additionally provided space for hiring new people, but that the procedure for the admission of new inspectors was complex and time-consuming.
„All ministries should work together to improve the position of inspectors, shorten the procedures for employment, and the Ministry of Finance should do everything to improve the financial position of inspectors,“ Martinovic said.
Martinovic announced that he would continue to insist with the competent ministries on hiring more people, „because without enough inspectors in the field, the chances of crossing into the gray zone are much higher“.
He also recalled that according to the new National Program for the Suppression of Grey Economy, one of the most important measures was to improve the efficiency of inspections.
