IMF praises us: Serbia has a good „anti-crisis“ system

The International Monetary Fund, deciding on the successful completion of the second review of Serbia’s agreed economic program, says that our country has a good crisis management system, said National Bank of Serbia’s Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic, who met with the Fund’s Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva.

Kristalina Georgieva stressed that Serbia had earned respect, especially given the good macroeconomic fundamentals created in the previous period, the NBS said.

Jorgovanka Tabakovic pointed out that the IMF had also assessed that the medium-term growth outlook in Serbia remained favorable thanks to the commitment of the authorities to structural reforms.

Georgieva especially emphasized the will and strength in Serbia to adopt unpopular, but necessary measures that contributed to the stabilization of public finances, and then to the dynamic growth by which Serbia was recognized.

She also praised Serbia’s growth last year, as well as the overall projected medium-term macroeconomic framework for Serbia.

Georgieva also referred to the necessity of preventive action by policy makers in all countries, as well as the fact that the conditions in which central banks made decisions were extremely challenging.

Tabakovic: SNS policy – confirmed as good

Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic informed Georgieva about the strong progress Serbia had made in the previous 10 years, during which it achieved and preserved macroeconomic stability.

She also stated that „the convincing victory of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in this year’s April elections, as well as the majority support of the people for the SNS policy imply the continuation of confirmed good policies for Serbia’s progress and preservation of the predictability of the business environment.“
