First CENSUS RESULTS are in: How high is our population decline?
The population in Serbia is down by 495,975 compared to the 2011 census, according to the first results of the census of the population, households and apartments published by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia ( RZS) on Wednesday.
RZS Director Miladin Kovacevic stated that the census showed that there were 6,690,887 residents in the Republic of Serbia. The census also collected data on 2,520,854 households and 3,628,175 apartments.
„The first results of the census contain basic data on the total number of persons, population, households and apartments, according to the situation as of September 30, 2022 and they are subject to change during statistical data processing. The final results of the census will be published successively, from April 2023 to June 2024,“ Kovacevic announced.
Compared to the 2011 census, the total population decreased by 495,975, i.e. 6.9 percent.
Decline in the population was recorded in all regions (about 10%), except in the Belgrade region, where the population increased by about 1.6%.
