Bogosavljevic: New electricity price hike unacceptable and unrealistic

President of the Consumer Protection Movement of Serbia, Petar Bogosavljevic, has said that a new increase in electricity arising from the arrangements of the Government of Serbia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for 2023 is unacceptable and unrealistic.

Bogosavljevic told the Danas daily that an increase of about 20 percent would be unbearable because the purchasing power and standard of living of citizens would be further reduced.

„This arrangement is at the expense of consumers and only the IMF benefits from it, which aims to ensure the orderly loan repayment. The Government of Serbia should not have opted for the implementation of such a concept”, he said.

According to him, the Government should have opted for an arrangement that would allow reducing costs and streamlining operations in EPS.

„This would enable the price of electricity not to be necessarily increased, and I believe that such an option, which would certainly be sustainable, would also be supported by the IMF,“ Bogosavljevic said.
