700 more metres at square: „Each cube 25kg, the largest in the city, works perfect“ (PHOTO)

Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic, together with chief urban designer Marko Stojcic, has toured the works at Trg republike, where he said that the reconstruction of the square was in the final phase. Vesic pointed out that pedestrian zones were completed at the square and that about 700 meters of space remained to be paved with cubes. „Each granite cube weighs 25 kilograms and they are the largest in our city. What remains to be done is setting up benches and finishing small pillars with cameras,“ said the deputy mayor, recalling that the deadline for the completion of the reconstruction was 1 September. He pointed out that at this square, for the first time since its existence, a compact unit was created, based on the project for which the City of Belgrade announced a competition in 2015, when the winning design was adopted and fully implemented without changes. According to him, the construction of such a square was not simple and it included the best materials such as the best granite, and the craftwork was done perfectly. He stated that a contract had been signed for the reconstruction of Sremska and Nusiceva streets, which are currently pedestrian streets, but which should officially become pedestrian zones after the reconstruction.
