“We will have plenty of food, but there is much to be done”

President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has said that Serbia will have enough food for its population, but that securing energy products will be a bigger problem.

„We will have enough food, but there is much to be done to make it so,“ he said during the ceremony marking the start of the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the port of Alexandroupoli.

Vucic said that it was necessary to provide sufficient quantities of mineral fertilizers for pre-sowing, as well as nitrogen fertilizers or urea for fertilization.

According to Vucic, in addition to food, the key problem in the world and Serbia is the provision of energy products, but the problem is also the inflation and the impossibility of participating in the financial markets.

“Who will now participate on the securities market, how to get substitute loans, not new debts. Impossible, because cash is becoming a resource. It is good because Serbia does not have a high public debt rate compared to GDP, and today it is 58.1 percent,“ he said.

Speaking about the problem of energy supply, Vucic said that Europe and Serbia „will face the hardest winter since 1950“.

He recalled that Serbia would have negotiations with Russia on new gas supplies because 99 percent of gas would still come from that country, at least in the next few years.
