We lose more than 140 people every day – Number of people leaving Serbia to live abroad DOUBLED in 5 years

On average, 142 people leave Serbia a day.  A total of 4,337 people leave our country a month and precisely 52,049 a year, according to the latest data from the European Statistical Office, which analysed migrations in both region and the world, and revealed that in the last 11 years as many as 336,000 Serbs have been granted EU entry permits. Thus, with 52,049 permits issued last year, Serbia is ranked 15th and can be compared to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which ranks one position below, but also alongside Pakistan, Albania, Iraq and Nigeria, the „Blic“ daily newspaper reports. In one year, a town the size of Sabac, Uzice or Vranje practically was moved out from our country. Practically in all countries in the Western Balkans there was a large increase in migrations in 2018, when compared to 2017. Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded the highest increase (+47.8%), followed by Serbia (+32.9%) and Montenegro (+25.5%), while Albania had the smallest growth of 20.6 percent. Observing the trend of migrations from Serbia and the region over the last decade, Eurostat data shows that, since 2008, residents of Albania received the largest number of EU permits (622,000), followed by Serbia (336,000) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (248,000), Northern Macedonia (158,256) and Montenegro (19,414).
