RSD 350,000 for the first child?

Over 200 million euros will be invested in the pro-natalist policy in the upcoming period, primarily to enable in vitro fertilization for all the interested couples, says Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic. „The intention is to increase the one-time assistance for the first child in the next two years from the current RSD 100,000 to RSD 300,000 or 350,000,“ Gojkovic said at the opening of the two-day international forum „Sanctity of Motherhood“. Furthermore, this year, funds were allocated for co-financing population policy measures in the amount of RSD 650 million, which is 150 million more than last year and five times more than in 2017, she explains. According to the minister responsible for demography, Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, 161 municipalities have received financial assistance for population policy measures over the past three years and some results are already visible. Employers are also expected to have better understanding of the family responsibilities of their employees. Flexible working hours, for example, would allow parents to more easily balance work and parenting. Positive experiences from other countries can be useful, but there is no universal model for improving the demographic image. The effects of the measures taken today can be expected in about ten years, it was concluded at the conference.
