NBS expects sharp LOWERING OF INFLATION next year

Two thirds of the amount of inflation in Serbia is a consequence of the spill-over of global energy and food prices to our market, and its decrease can be expected next year, vice president of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Ana Ivkovic, said today.

She said an accelerated drop in inflation is expected next year and a return to expected values in 2024. .

She explained that the inflation occurred before the war in Ukraine, after the pandemic crisis, when there was a sharp increase in demand on the global market, which the supply could not keep up with, so there was a supply problem, and that afterwards the Ukrainian crisis further aggravated the situation.

„Most central banks assessed the crisis as short-term, but after the beginning of the war in Ukraine the crisis became more permanent,“ Ivkovic said.
