Mihajlovic: Recommendations must become mandatory, public sector gets saving instructions

Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic says that public companies and institutions have been ordered to prepare electricity savings plans in the next five days. She says she hopes the government’s saving recommendations will soon become binding.

Zorana Mihajlovic pointed out that she expected the recommendations to become mandatory, because in August, she said, three million euros per day were spent on the purchase of 7,000 megawatts of electricity, at a price of 530 euros per megawatt-hour, that is, 94 million euros for electricity import.

„When coal is added to that, it is 100 million euros of import,“ Mihajlovic told reporters before the opening of the event on green transition and innovation.

Minister Mihajlovic emphasized that 150 million euros were spent on electricity import in January this year and she pointed out that if we got into the situation of spending half a billion on import in December, it was clear that savings should be made.
