For now, stable business, if the crisis persists Serbia’s economy will also be in trouble

The end of the year is an opportunity to consider how the economy operated and make an analysis of the business in such complex circumstances on the international level. And how much did the geopolitical situation, caused primarily by the Ukrainian crisis, affect domestic businessmen?

The poll of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce showed that the Serbian economy in the third quarter of the current year continued with good business performance and that we still do not have a crisis situation, and that there is obvious stability of the economic system.

However, since a recession in the EU is expected in the upcoming months, the business operation of economic entities in Serbia will depend on its depth and duration to a significant extent. Bojan Stanic, Assistant Director of the Sector for Strategic Analyses of the SCC, tells BIZLife that the key macroeconomic indicators are that the Serbian economy recorded a positive result this year, which is partly a consequence of the inertia from the previous year, when a record growth rate in the last 15 years was achieved.

However, we are witnessing a slowdown of the economy in the second half, as a result of the gradual spill-over of the crisis from the EU, as the main foreign trade partner, he added.

Stanic points out that we do not have a crisis situation yet, and that there is obvious stability of the economic system, but that a recession in the EU is expected in the upcoming months, so the business of economic entities in Serbia will depend to a significant extent on its depth and duration.
