    “Dnevnik” sold for 600 euros

The new owner of the Dnevnik newspaper with a 76-year long tradition and today the only daily newspaper in the Serbian language that is published in Vojvodina, is the TV station Novosadska televizija. Last week, they bought the majority share in the company „Dnevnik Vojvodina Press“ from German Medien Group Balkan GMBH for only 600 euros, as it is confirmed by the purchase agreement obtained by Krik, reports N1 TV.

The daily Dnevnik is the successor to Slobodna Vojvodina, whose first edition was published by Vojvodina’s anti-fascists during the war in 1942. In the 1980s and 1990s, it was the most read and influential newspaper in Vojvodina, with the circulation exceeding 100,000 copies. In 2003, Dnevnik Vojvodina Press was established, with the majority ownership of German WAZ, managed by Bodo Hombach, former coordinator of the Stability Pact for South East Europe.

Afterwards, it is hard to monitor the changes in the ownership structure of the Dnevnik daily, and in 2012, we heard from Aleksandar Vucic, Deputy Prime Minister at the time, that Dnevnik Vojvodina Press, as well as the stake in Politika and Vecernje Novosti, was purchased by the owner of Farmakom Miroslav Bogicevic for, as he said at the time, the needs of the DS. Today, the Dnevnik daily has almost negligible influence, with a circulation that, unofficially, does not exceed two thousand copies.
