Citizens have CHF400 million in banks
Foreign savings accounts of Serbian citizens currently have CHF400 million which, when converted into European currency is EUR333 million.
Data of the National Bank of Serbia shows that foreign savings in Swiss francs increased by CHF8 million in the first four months of this year.
Even though some savers are confused, as they were unable to find a bank that would grant savings account in Swiss francs in the last couple of days, officials of the National Bank of Serbia points out that there are no restrictions when it comes to opening of savings account and savings in Swiss francs, yet banks can decide on their own whether they will accept deposits in some foreign currencies.
According to provisions that regulate foreign exchange operations, there are no restrictions in opening foreign currency accounts in Swiss francs, or for savings in that currency, term or sight. Additionally, based on provisions that regulate banks’ business activities, the bank can, in accordance with its business policy, decide whether it will receive deposits in certain currencies.
