Belgrade: NO PAYMENT for entering city centre, they figured out we do not have SUBWAY

Not a week has passed since the Transportation Secretariat has announced a public procurement procedure for conducting the study „Traffic Management in Belgrade through the model of charging tariffs for accessing the central zone“, when on Tuesday it was already aborted. They state that the reason is that the conditions for the realization of the tender procedure have not been met yet, the Vecernje Novosti daily reports. The news that the City is considering charging fees for motor vehicles entering the city centre in the near future surprised residents and professional public. Traffic experts were against it, arguing that it is unrealistic to charge a fee for entering the city centre, without offering an alternative to citizens. And Belgrade does not have an alternative. The tender worth 10 million dinars was thus suspended. „The Transportation Secretariat, as a procuring party, determined that it is necessary to conduct a study, since the preconditions for the implementation are not met. That is, the high-capacity public transport system has not been implemented in Belgrade yet, and the implementation of traffic infrastructure projects is in progress. For these reasons, the Transportation Secretariat suspended the public procurement procedure in question „, it is stated in the explanation. Important infrastructural projects have not been completed in the capital, such as the construction of the subway and the tunnel Sava-Danube slope. This would allow easier relocation of traffic from the centre and an alternative would be offered to citizens.
