5,000 Serbian workers in Russia
Approximately up to five thousand workers from Serbia are currently employed in Russia, according to the estimates of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, but due to the current situation regarding Ukraine, some of them still decided to return to our country.
The Chamber, however, does not have precise data on how many of them are returning to Serbia these days, and the competent authorities point out that our citizens are mostly engaged there in the construction industry and in energy plants, and that many of them have decided to stay there, although the situation in the region is at an unenviable level due to the conflict in Ukraine.
On the other hand, based on the data entered by licensed employment agencies in the single record, about 1,100 Serbian citizens were employed abroad during 2021 through such agencies. According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, about 900 of our citizens were employed in Russia, while the agencies were not engaged in employment in Ukraine.
Nevertheless, Serbia does not yet have employment agreements with Russia, Malta and Qatar because negotiations are still on-going, the ministry noted.
