
SBB in charge of more than half of the market
SBB is by far the biggest operator of media content distribution in Serbia, the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) has announced.
In the „Market review“ for 2017, RATEL states that the largest operator of media content distribution in Serbia is the company Serbia Broadband – “Srpske kablovske mreze d.o.o.” (SBB), with a market share of 54 percent, based on the number of subscribers. This also includes the data of operator I.KOM, which merged with SBB at the beginning of 2018.
“Telekom Srbija” has around 25 percent of market share in 2017. In addition to the SBB and Telekom, the companies “JP PTT Srbija”, “Kopernikus Technology”, “Radijus Vektor” and “SAT-TRAKT” can also be set aside. According to RATEL report, based on the number of subscribers these operators jointly account for 92% of the market of media content distribution.
The most common way of distributing media content in 2017 is still distribution via cable-distribution systems, which has around 990.000 subscribers and records a 3 percent growth when compared to the year before.
The number of IPTV subscribers via copper wire network also increased by about 1.5 percent, while the number of DTH subscribers across the satellite network is down by about 4 percent.
The number of subscribers to media content distribution over wireless network is also growing and in 2017 it is around 21 thousand, as well as the number of subscribers to distribution over the Internet, which is around 15 thousand, RATEL report for 2017 stipulates.
