NO DISCHARGES in 90% of IT companies in Serbia, one fifth cut salaries
An IT industry, one of the most perspective industries in Serbia, has shown great vitality and sustainability during the coronavirus pandemic. There are several evidences to support this claim. Of 73 IT companies surveyed, 71 percent will not pause the development of their new products and services during this crisis. Also, 90 percent of IT firms have not laid a single worker for the time being, the study „The Impact of the COVID-19 Virus Pandemic on the Serbian Labour Market“, conducted by websites HelloWorld.rs and Poslovi Infostud in early April shows. According to employers in the IT sector, almost half said that their differences over planned finances for 2020 would be „moderately lower“ than projected, and 16% of IT firms would „reach the goal.“ The advantage of IT companies is that they are highly flexible and adapt quickly to new circumstances. According to a survey, in two-fifths of IT companies this crisis puts their business sustainability at risk in the short-term, but 44% of IT companies believe that COVID-19 is not a threat to their business. The encouraging thing is that in most cases, employers will not cut costs or will not do it yet, but it will start. Where savings will be made, however, it involves mostly internal or marketing costs.
