Momirovic in Switzerland: Talks on procurement of hybrid trains
Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic has talked with Swiss officials about the procurement of hybrid trains that have electric and battery power.
After a meeting with Swiss Minister for Environmental Protection, Transport, Energy and Communications, Simonet Sommaruga, Momirovic said that these trains would be used on those sections of railways in Serbia that were not electrified.
He announced that new high-speed trains would be procured from Switzerland, and that new routes and an extended network of routes would be introduced that would be electrified.
„First, we are starting the works on electrification of the railway from Nis to Dimitrovgrad (Bulgaria), and we have also allocated funds for the electrification of the railway ‘Moravian Corridor’ from Stalac to Kraljevo. The entire south of Serbia will thus be able to use the Bar railway with significant money and time savings,“ the minister said.
