„Covid hospitals are full, there will be no introduction of other institutions into the covid system“

State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek states that the healthcare system has sufficient capacities and that no consideration is being given to introducing other institutions into the covid system, although, as he adds, three covid hospitals are completely full, clinical-hospital centres are 90 percent full, and city hospitals are approximately 80 percent full.

„The strategy for the fourth wave was to fill three Covid hospitals first, and they are completely full, this being a total hit for the healthcare system. We took care of 2,000 people there. „Clinical-hospital centers are 90 percent filled, and hospitals in Serbia 80 percent,“ Djerlek said for RTS TV.

He says that 90 percent of the patients taken care of in covid hospitals are unvaccinated, and for the hospital in Batajnica this number is 95.6 percent, which, as he estimates, is the biggest problem of the healthcare system at the moment.

„This is the biggest problem that the healthcare system and the state are struggling with at this moment, and we will do everything we can to increase the number of vaccinated persons, because without vaccination there is no way out of this situation,“ Djerlek said.

Speaking about the immunisation against coronavirus, Djerlek said that the process was no longer stagnant and he announced a „quick and agile“ campaign in the media and in the field, which will be led by the best medical professionals.

„That is a great goal – not to convince, but to explain to people that they should be vaccinated,“ he pointed out.

He highlights that the control of measures has been tightened and that 13,500 inspections were carried out between September 27 to October 3, and this is 20% more than in the previous week.

„We will gradually increase the number of inspections. Epidemic measures can have an impact only if they are well controlled, that is, implemented in practice and in action, with, of course, vaccination, vaccination, vaccination,“ Djerlek said.
