The IMF arrived and they are immediately PRAISING US: A very SUCCESSFUL 2019

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, led by Jan Kees Martijn, is residing in Serbia, where it has talked with Serbian officials about the realization of reform goals within the „Policy Coordination Instrument“ arrangement. The Minister of Finance, Sinisa Mali has talked with the IMF delegation that is residing in Serbia until Friday, February 28th. The current arrangement was approved on July 18th, 2018, for a period of 30 months, i.e. until January 2021, and it is a non-financial arrangement, that has an advisory role and is primarily focused on implementation of structural reforms. Interlocutors agreed that 2019 was very successful in economic terms, given that the economic growth, according to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, was 4.2 percent, that public debt was under control and below 50 percent, that state budget is in surplus for the fourth consecutive year, and that Serbia had a record inflow of foreign direct investment of EUR 3.8 billion, the Ministry of Finance announced. Mali pointed out it is good that economic growth is diversified and that the construction industry dominates, while the economic growth in the final quarter of last year was as high as 6.1 percent. One of the topics covered was the investment program „Serbia 2025“. He added that financial group JP Morgan has recently included Serbia on the list for potential inclusion in its index, and a few days ago a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Euroclear, and Minister expects Serbia to enter that system by the end of the year, in order to become even more attractive to foreign investors. Jan Kees Martijn has said that last year’s economic growth in Serbia was higher than expected and projected by the IMF, and he hopes it will continue in 2020 as well.
