The European Commission has increased forecasts for Serbia

The European Commission has increased estimate of growth of Serbia’s gross domestic product to 4.1 percent for this year, in the autumn report of the „European Economic Forecast“, compared to previous 3.3 percent predicted in the spring report.

The European Commission has also increased the estimate of Serbia’s economic growth for 2019, from previous 3.3 percent to 3.8 percent, and similar growth is expected in 2020 as well. According to EC’s estimate, Serbia’s public debt this year will amount to 56.4 percent of GDP, fall to 54.1 next year, and to 52.1 percent in 2020.

It is said in a publication released on the official website of the EC that Serbia’s economic growth accelerated to almost 5.0 percent in the first half of 2018, on an annual basis, perspectives are looking strong and growth should remain dynamic despite projected mild slowdown next year.

„Investments are expected to be robust, employment and income growth will contribute to increase in domestic consumption and funding conditions and fiscal policy will also be encouraging for growth,“ the section dedicated to Serbia asserts.

The report, however, evaluates that strong domestic demand and deterioration of trade conditions could boost inflation and external imbalances.
