Subsidies only for the WEALTHY, others will „pay“ to drive OLD vehicles

If state starts giving subsidies from EUR 5,000 to EUR 7,000 for the purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles, it will still be significantly more expensive than cars in the same category, up to three to four times more respectively, thus incentives will practically be intended for the wealthy people. Vast majority of citizens who are driving the biggest pollutants, i.e. old cars will not be encompassed by the pollution reduction measures, as they do not have money to purchase those with a newer engine. Because of that, the planned measures announced two days ago by the Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan received a rather cold welcome in expert circles, where they believe that this is however the first step and the following moves by the authorities will include incentives for the purchase and use of methane or liquid petroleum gas, which are far cleaner. The Minister of Environmental Protection, Goran Trivan recently announced that imports of used vehicles with Euro 3 engines will most likely be banned from January 1st of the following year, adding that it is still being considered whether the ban will also include Euro 4 engines. Trivan pointed out that the announced import ban does not mean that citizens will be banned from using old cars they already own, but those cars will have to undergo stricter emission control from July 1st, 2021.
