Prime minister speeding up construction of gas pipeline
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has stated that construction of the gas pipeline Nis-Sofia will commence sooner than it has been planned.
She has stated for the Vecernje novosti daily that the EU, via its IPA funds, has set aside around EUR50 million, and since state has realized budget surplus following successful implementation of economic reforms, realization of the project will commence sooner than it has been planned.
As she has stated, realization of that joint project of Serbia and the EU will secure “diversification of routes and sources,” as well as improvement of security in gas supply of Serbia, Bulgaria and the entire region.
“On the other hand, northern part of the gas pipeline system is unburdened significantly, thus safety in supply of a transit route for Bosnia and Herzegovina is increased, as well as future supply of our southern province Kosovo and Metohija, Macedonia and Montenegro,” Brnabic has added.
She has said that the EU is prepared to set aside funds, yet state has to secure route of the gas pipeline, i.e. indemnify owners of properties where pipes will be laid.
“Gas pipeline route will follow Corridor 10, as that is the most cost-profitable option and owners of properties on the route will receive financial compensation for construction of the gas pipeline,” prime minister has said.
