Minister announcing: We are signing an agreement worth EUR230 million with the Russians

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic announced that Serbia would sign an agreement on railway transport worth EUR230 million with Russia on January 17th, during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which pertains to the work on Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway section, construction of a unique dispatch centre for controlling the railway transport and continuation of rehabilitation of the Bar railway from Valjevo to Uzice.

„The agreement between „Infrastruktura zeleznica Srbije“ and company “RZD International” is very important, as is Putin’s visit, which has political significance as well, as Serbia needs to have good relations with the USA, Russia and China. We are too small to be picky when it comes to partners and cooperation,“ the minister stated with „Prva“ TV station.

Mihajlovic also evaluated that Russian Railways is one of the world’s best companies and that Serbia had never had any bad experience in cooperation with them.

She pointed out that intensive investments in railways would continue, reminding that 77 kilometres of railways had been completed last year, and that almost 200 kilometres of Bar railway remains to be renewed.

Mihajlovic also stated that rail crossings in Serbia, around 2,000 of them, will be renewed in line with experts’ instructions, and for that purpose EUR13 million had been set aside.

The Minister of Transport stated that signalization on rail crossings is targeted by thieves, causing expenditure to Serbian Railways between RSD250 to RSD300 million a year.
