“IT export already reached EUR1 billion”
The stake of the information technology industry in Serbia’s GDP is 10%, Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali has said, pointing out that IT export has reached a figure of one billion euros this year.
Mali has talked at the panel „A common approach to the digitized Western Balkans“, within the meeting of the economy ministers of countries participating in the Berlin Process in Vienna, where he has said that 10% of our country’s GDP is generated by the very IT industry, which records high growth rates year after year.
Since large number of young people see their future in this field, Mali says, Serbia has introduced computer programming not only in secondary but in elementary schools as well. „Our obligation is to employ those young people, to give them the opportunity to realize their dreams in our country. This year, 1,750 schools have received computers and internet access,“ Mali has said.
According to him, Serbia has become a leader in the implementation of so-called e-textbooks and he has announced that, as of September, our schools will have 2,000 classrooms which will be fully digitized.
